Ozark fans: you’re in the dart box. At this point, you’ve probably eaten up the first 7 episodes of season 4, taking in all the drama and action surrounding the birds and their final midwestern schemes. And while we’re all eager to see the story unfold when Season 4, Part 2 debuts, the fact remains: we’re still jonesing. Of course, there are plenty of TV to watch, and numerous programs to choose from.
Even if you saw everything Ozark, there are other places to turn to find similar vibes than you like. Jason Bateman fan? You’re covered. Horror trailer? Ready. Drug trafficking drama? Lots of choices there. A show that is just addictive? Again, cover. And some stuff is just connected by similar people behind the scenes. It should do the thing too.
The good news is that while Ozark is very good at what it does, it’s rare to figure out the wheel. This is not the first program that has a high input that makes you click through to the next episode when the closing credits have barely started. This is not the first show that focuses on a bad guy (or, actually, a corrupt group of people); this is not the first show where most of his problems stem from the drug trade; it is not the first show to center its action on a remote location, and it is certainly not the first show to feature striking footage.
So, while we all wait for Ozark to return for its final episodes, here are some apps that may become your new obsession.
Breaking Bad
The show Ozark is mostly compared to (especially in its early onset) is Breaking Bad, a program that – if you missed it somehow – was a legitimate television phenomenon. With an impeccable cast (Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul led a perfect group; many awards were won), this is simply one of the best crime shows you will ever watch. You should now know the story: a terminally ill science teacher has to pay for medical bills and make enough money to take care of his family … so he uses his knowledge to start cooking and selling meth. Things spiral from there to say the least. Ozark has many of the same criminal snowball scenario pieces in his DNA.

Development arrested
Development arrested is considered one of the best comedies of his generation, and with good reason; it has jokes that are hilarious in any context, but especially has a story and structure that rewards viewers who pay close attention. The center of the Development arrested world is Michael Bluth, played by our husband Jason Bateman, as he is the established person in a world with many outrageous characters around him. And with a cast that includes Will Arnett, David Cross, Alia Shawkat, Michael Cera, Jessica Walter, Portia De Rossi, Jeffrey Tambor and Tony Hale, there’s a lot to laugh about.

narcs
If the drug cartel is part of Ozark is what interests you, narcs might just be the program for you. This crime series portrays Wagner Moura as Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar in a series that charts his rise and fall. If you want more, Netflix has Narcos: Mexico go.

The wire
David Simon’s The wire is with good reason a legendary piece of television; The program, which takes place in Baltimore, follows both law enforcement and drug dealers in a program that chooses no side. Instead, the show follows the people involved. Actors like Michael K. Williams and a young Michael B. Jordan are involved, but this is an ensemble piece that everyone should watch.

Fargo
If you’re in the market for another program with a Midwestern crime story, look no further than Fargo, based on (and kind of connected to) Joel and Ethan Coen’s Oscar-winning 1996 film of the same name. Fargo is an anthology, so each season is a whole new story (there have been four so far).
1 and 2 are the best, but each of the group is worth watching, and has some amazing cast: Season 1 stars Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman (and has a small Bob Odenkirk role), Season 2 the Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemone, and Patrick Wilson, season 3 has Ewan McGregor playing a twin, and season 4 has Chris Rock and Jason Schwartzman. And these are just the clues.

Mal mans
Ozark is a bit at the end of the “bad guy anti-hero era, which shows like Breaking Bad and The Sopranos Another key in that subgenre is Mal mans, a modern TV classic that focuses on Jon Hamm’s incredible performance as the deeply upset (and deeply charming) advertiser Don Draper. If you have not seen Mal mans, it’s time to change it now.

The Outsider
Jason Bateman plays a key role and directs several episodes of The Outsider, the HBO series adaptation of Stephen King’s novel of the same name. Although the series was canceled after only one season, it’s right – the first season covers the whole mystery and story of the book. It’s dark and grainy, just like Ozark, although it’s Stephen King β so it certainly leans a little more in its horror.
The Night Of
We stop on the grim train here. The night of was a limited series on HBO in 2016, and was perhaps the first real breakaway moment for Riz Ahmed, who has since been nominated for an Oscar. Partly murder mystery, partly legal drama, partly investigation into the issue of mass incarceration, The Night Of is one of the best limited series you will see. John Turturro is also excellent as Ahmed’s lawyer, while Michael K. Williams has continued his HBO relationship with excellent effect.

sharp objects
For Ozark fans who are also in Away girl, Sharp objects play a bit like a crossover of the two. It’s a murder secret rather than a crime drama, but just like Ozark, Sharp objects is located in a clear place to which it takes some time to get used to. Amy Adams is amazing and has earned even more praise than usual for her starring role here.

Yellow
You may not have heard of Yellow just not yet, but you’re probably a friend who. One of the best performances of 2021 (when it premiered) and 2022 (when it ended its first season), this busy (no pun intended) show is just intense and super fun- it’s a perfect drink.
The program follows a High School girls team involved in a 1996 plane crash in the woods, where they were trapped for 19 months. At the same time, we are catching up with older versions of some of these girls (played perfectly by Melanie Lynskey, Juliette Lewis, Christina Ricci and Tawny Cypress) in the present. It’s just an amazing, fun, addictive show (and with that 1996 setting, of course, it has incredible 90’s music on the soundtrack). Make Yellow jackets your next binge.

True Detective
The first season of True Detective wagons without a doubt a pillar moment in the prestige of TV evolution. After True Detective– who found real friends and big stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as detectives with different philosophies to solve a horrific murder – the single season story (with bigger stars than ever before) has become more popular than ever. As Ozark, True Detective has a unique environment, and is anchored by strong star performances. More of a mystery, but hard to imagine Ozark fans will not like what they get here. (Season 2, however, is not particularly good. Season 3 is solid. We’ll see if we ever get a Season 4.)

Yellowstone
Most people have heard of it Yellowstone now β it’s one of the biggest shows on TV. But if you do not have it: co-creator Taylor Sheridan (who also wrote Hell of High Water, Sicario, and Wind River) Craft a modern Western that centers on a ranching family in Montana-the Duttons, led by John (Kevin Costner) -Who wants to land their family in the first place a hand in about a million other things as well protected, but has.
It’s a crime drama that at times turns into a soap opera and turns into an action and other times into a romance at other times. It’s a bit everywhere, and that’s kind of what we like about itβYellowstone do whatever the hell you want. And while it sometimes works more than others, no one can say it’s not fun.
