Paramount recently shared an exclusive first look at the upcoming Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone, 1883) project Tulsa King with Men’s Health. The series is set to star Sylvester Stallone as New York mafia capo Dwight “The General” Manfredi.
Alongside Sheridan, Terence Winter (The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire) will also serve as executive producer.
The series follows Manfredi — who seems to be a fictional character and not based on real-life persons — after his release from prison. The series’ logline describes Manfredi’s dilemma: upon his release, and after serving 25 years, he finds himself exiled in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by his mob family. In Tulsa, Manfredi sets out to build a new crew and with it a new criminal empire.
Executive producer David Glasser outlined what makes the series so exciting, including the presence of Stallone in his first television role.
“There is no better team to tell this story of a fish-out-of-water mobster than Taylor Sheridan and Terence Winter. Their talent behind the camera, paired with the iconic Sylvester Stallone, will deliver a thrilling look at a man who prioritizes loyalty and family over all else, and is now taking stock of his life and grappling with the choices that have brought him to Tulsa. ”
A man who “prioritizes loyalty and family over all else” will strike Yellowstone fans as a familiar character drive.
Rounding out the cast are veteran crime genre actors like Max Casella (The Sopranos), Domenick Lombardozzi (The Wire), and Vincent Piazza (Boardwalk Empire).
The series is currently filming in Tulsa and does not yet have an official release date, though we’re told it will premiere on Paramount + sometime this fall.
