What Will Batgirl Be over?
Thanks for the same DC FanDome opportunity we gave our first look at exactly how much fun Colin Farrell will have The Batman, as well as some treats we picked up along the way, we have a basic idea of the shape of the Batgirl plot will take. This will be an origin story that Barbara follows Gordon, son of Commissioner Jim Gordon, as she picks up the hood. Apparently, the commish will be played by JK Simmons, who previously played the character in Zack Snyder’s DC movies. Confusing! We know.
As for the villain of this story? Friends and fans of The Mummy, cheers: Brendan Fraser will play the antagonist Batgirl. Deadline first reported the news that Fraser, whose character has not yet been named, will join Grace and Keaton. To be honest, we could not have been happier to see Fraser, a really great person, continues with his much-welcomed re-entry into Hollywood.
Back to the heroes. When Batgirl directors Adil El Arbi en Bilall Fallah was asked if Batman showed up himself, they said, “the right one” would appear in Batgirl. Now we know who they consider the real Caped Crusader: Michael Keaton, one of us favorite Batmen to wear the hood. With Simmons involved in the project, we thought Batgirl at least would maintain some consistency and loop Ben Affleck’s Batman in the mix. Batfleck seems to be a no-go, in that case.
We’ll have to wait for more details on the film, which will debut exclusively on HBO Max. In the meantime, check out what Grace has to say so far about her Batgirl training montage: “Lots and lots of training! I currently train every day with my amazing ‘martial arts mom’, Ming Qiu, who’s the whip! I’ve never fought in my life no, so we work very hard every day to get my body used to all the movements! I also read a lot of comics and, believe it or not, keep my eye out for tweets from our beloved DC comic book fans to see what they are excited to see in my repeat of Babs! Research is everything. “
