Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is no stranger to inspirational platitudes and self-mythologizing. His tendency to retell his life story isn’t simply a means to build up his brand (although it certainly does not hurt). The actor has made his humble beginnings — the days after his fledging football career ended and he decided to pivot to the life of a professional wrestler with just $ 7 in his pocket — inextricable from his current hardworking, no excuses persona, which sees him training in the gym at all hours and getting involved in seemingly every type of project.
Now, he’s making his foundational period an even larger part of his legacy with the latest Under Armor Project Rock apparel drop, the Seven Bucks Story collection (his film production company already boasts the moniker). “This one is inspired by that moment – many moons ago in 1995 when I found myself with $ 7 bucks in my pocket and nothing else but the work I was willing to put in with my own two hands,” Johnson wrote on an Instagram post hyping up the drop. “These days, I’m a long way from having just $ 7bucks, but it’s my daily reminder to never forget where the f * ck I came from.”
The post includes a video of the big man training in the gym wearing the gear, taking on an intense upper body session complete with pushups, machine flies, machine presses, flat dumbbell bench presses, and incline dumbbell bench presses. “They say when you’re good at something, you’ll tell everything,” Johnson says in the clip’s voiceover. “But when you’re great at something, they’ll tell you.”

The gear sports the typical Project Rock slogans and accoutrements, with sweatsuits, tanks, shorts, and more for men, women, and kids. There are some new colorways of the PR4 training shoe, but the most notable addition to the line is the new BSR 2 training shoe. The follow-up to Project Rock’s first non-signature footwear, the BSR — which of course is shorthand for his Blood.Sweat.Respect. slogan, for those paying attention at home — offers wearers a lower cut, more versatile shoe for more than just heavy lifting (think ladder drills, short sprints, and more).
The second iteration of the sneaker simplifies the silhouette, with an all-mesh upper and no heel tab. These are the first new shoes for the line after Project Rock became the official footwear of the UFC last monthso you’ll likely see them if you tune into a fight in the near future.
The Seven Bucks Story collection is now available from Under Armor.
