The Batman is pitting Robert Pattison’s Dark Knight against Paul Dano’s The Riddler, John Tuturro’s crime boss Carmine Falcone, and Colin Farrell’s The Penguin, which is quite a lot of work for a debut outing,
Farrell looks pretty unrecognizable in the role, and has now revealed that the prosthetics took up to four hours a day to apply, although he notes in an interview with Variety that “eventually they got it down to two.”
“Matt Reeves is a wonderful filmmaker, so I was just grateful to be allowed anywhere near it,” he said. “Hopefully people are entertained by it and moved by it. It’s a very unique take on a story that’s often been told.”
The lengthy process in the chair may seem excessive, as the actor has previously stated that he does not actually appear in the film for all that long, but he’s also signed on to star in and executive produce a spin-off series in which his character would feature more heavily.
There’s also been plenty of speculation that the film will either feature the Joker as part of the plot or set an appearance for him up in a sequel, with Barry Keoghan rumored to be the latest actor to take on the role.
At this point, we’ve got no idea if that will happen or not, but we’ve only got a month and a bit until we find out.
The Batman has a release date of March 4, 2022.
