Longtime Hollywood couple Lisa Bonet and Jason Momoa shocked everyone when they announced on social media that they break up after 16 years together. Sources spoke Entertainment Tonight and Our Weekly about what led to the decision.
WeThe source said it was due to personality differences, the same thing that attracted them to each other when they first started dating in 2005. “Jason and Lisa worked because they were so different,” the source said. “He was jovial, noisy and the center of attention, and Lisa was always cool, calm and subdued.”
“That energy really started to cause friction because they wanted to lead different lives,” the insider continued. “Jason wanted to travel and adventure a lot more. Lisa, she would rather read at home, write poetry and cook. ”
Entertainment Tonight‘s source added that distance was a contributing factor in the split. ““Jason and Lisa have been struggling in their relationship for some time,” said the source. “When Jason left to film Aquaman 2, their differences and issues are exacerbated. He was away for a while and that definitely put additional stress on their relationship. [They] still love each other and respect each other. ”
The couple announced the divorce in a joint statement that Momoa posted on his Instagram, as Bonet does not have social media accounts, per People. (The post has since been deleted.) The couple married in October 2017 and have two children together, 14-year-old Lola and 13-year-old Nakoa-Wolf.
Their joint statement reads:
